dc.description.abstract | To determine if the decreased central corneal thickness is a predictor of legal blindness in patients over 40 years of age with Primary Open Angle Glaucoma. Materials and Methods: A cross-sectional study was carried out, evaluating 112 patients with a diagnosis of Primary Open Angle Glaucoma, attending to the Ophthalmology service at the Regional Teaching Hospital of Trujillo during the period October 2019 to March 2020, they were divided into 2 groups of the legally blind patient represented by 47 patients, and 65 non-legally blind participants. Results: The prevalence of legal blindness was 41.96%.; The bivariate analysis of the general characteristics of the study showed that age (64.26 ± 12.63 vs 59.88 ± 10.65; P = 0.05), diabetes mellitus (55.32% vs 21.54%; p <0.001) and myopia (51.06% vs 18.46%; p <0.001) presented statistical significance, being associated with legal blindness. The decreased corneal thickness was detected in 43 (91.49%) patients with legal blindness and in 53 (81.54%) who were not legally blind. In the multivariate analysis, the development of legal blindness was statistically independent of the decreased corneal thickness. (P = 0.137) Conclusions. The development of legal blindness was statistically independent of the decreased central corneal thickness in the multivariate analysis | en_US |
