Objective: The objective of this study was to determine if exclusive breastfeeding is a factor associated with a short hospital stay in infants with bronchiolitis at Hospital Belén of Trujillo. Materials and methods: An observational study of cases and controls of infants treated in the Pediatrics department by the emergency and hospitalization area of the Hospital Belén of Trujillo was carried out, during the period from January 2018 to December 2022. The diagnosis of bronchiolitis was recorded, for more late distinguishing patients whose record reports the history of exclusive or mixed breastfeeding and likewise, observe the length of stay in the hospital. Results: The study included a total of 148 patients who were treated for bronchiolitis in the emergency and hospitalization service, 73.0% of them were exclusively breastfeeding infants with a short hospital stay and 37.8% had a prolonged hospital stay, while infants with mixed breastfeeding, 27% had a short hospital stay and 62.2% had a long hospital stay. When comparing our results, an OR 4.44 (95% CI 2.21-8.89) was obtained, with a significant association (p <0.001). Conclusions: Exclusive breastfeeding is associated with a short hospital stay, as is previous corticosteroid therapy, while gender, immunizations, and previous antibiotic therapy were not associated.es_PE
