| es_PE |
dc.description.abstract | To define the association of metabolic syndrome and lower urinary tract symptoms in man patients. MATERIAL AND METHOD: This was an observational, analytical and cross-sectional study. Data collected from 140 men aged 50–89 years, Who were admitted to urology outpatient- Hospital Belén de Trujillo, during January to February 2017, who met the selection criteria for metabolic syndrome (MS) and lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS), they underwent International Prostate Symptom Score (IPSS) and review of medical histories. For data processing and analysis, the statistical package SPSS V 23.0 was used; For the comparison of qualitative variables the chi2 test was used, and for the quantitative variables, Student's T test was used, P<0.05 was accepted as the level of statistical significance and a 95% CI; And to categorize the variables we calculated Odds Ratio (OR). RESULTS: 140 patients included in the study, MS was present in 60 (42, 9%) patients (mean age 59, 23 years) and 82(58, 57%) wiht LUTS (mean age: 55, 17, 58, 63 and 63, 20 years for mild, moderate, and severe LUTS, respectively). The odds ratio of MS having mild, moderate-severe LUTS was 2.1 and positive statistical significance (p<0,05) (IC 95% = 3,869-20,734). Only 4 components of the MS had statistical significance: waist circumference ≥102 cm (OR: 2,2), triglycerides >150 mg/dl (OR: 4,4), cHDL <40 mg/dl (OR: 2,3) y fasting plasma glucose >100 mg/dl (OR: 2); the intervening variables shown to be significantly associated between prostatic hiperplasia and older age. CONCLUSIONS: Metabolic syndrome is associated with lower urinary tract symptoms in men patients, only four components of the MS had statistical significance: waist circumference ≥102 cm, triglycerides >150 mg/dl, cHDL <40 mg/dl y fasting plasma glucose >100 mg/dl. | en_US |
