dc.description.abstract | To determinate if there is association between metabolic syndrome
and hyperuricemia in adults.
Material and method: An observational, analytical and cross-sectional study
was conducted, which includes reviews of medical records of 93 adult patients
who were treated at the Internal Medicine and Rheumatology Service of the
HRDT in the period 2019 to 2023. According to the eligibility criteria, they were
distributed based on the presence or absence of metabolic syndrome and
hyperuricemia. The collected information was analyzed using the Pearson chi-
square test with SPSS STATISTICS 27, to carry out the statistical analysis and
subsequently display the acquired results in tables and graphs using Microsoft
Excel Software.
Results: The findings in the group of patients with metabolic syndrome and
hyperuricemia consist of 43 patients (51.1 %), while in the group without
metabolic syndrome but with hyperuricemia, there are 15 patients (100 %), in
which it has a significance percentage of p = 0.0010. With respect to the
variable sex, it indicates that males (81.1%) compared to females (23.3%)
have a higher probability of developing hyperuricemia. The age variable in
patients with or without hyperuricemia suggests that there is no significant
difference.
Conclusions: There is an association between metabolic syndrome and
hyperuricemia in adults | es_PE |
