To determine an association between the hypoalbuminaemia and prolonged hospital stay in patients with COVID-19. METHODS: A retrospective cohort analysis was carried out, which analyzed 242 clinical histories of patients with VOCID-19 who underwent albumin tests during their hospital stay at the Trujillo Regional Teaching Hospital between 2020 - 2021 from the hospital’s statistical database. Pearson's chi-squared test (X2) as a measure of association the relative risk (RR) was calculated using a 95% confidence interval and a value less than 5% (p < 0,05) was considered as significant. RESULTS: Hypoalbuminemia was shown to be a risk factor for prolonged hospital stay in patients with VOCID-19 with RR=4.90 (95% CI: 3.30 - 7.29; p=0.001). Variables, absolute lymphocyte count at admission, hypertension and obesity are those associated with prolonged hospital stay in patients with VOCID-19 (p=0.008; p=0.047; p=0.015). Contrary to the high AST variables (p=0.112), high ALT (p=0.569), high creatinine (p=0.105), diabetes mellitus 2 (0.16), age (p=0.155), sex (p=0.549), which are not associated with prolonged hospital stay. CONCLUSION: Hypoalbuminemia was found to be a risk factor for prolonged hospital stay in patients with COVID-19.es_PE
