(p=0.018, OR: 1.78, IC: 1.10-2.88), HbA1C >7.5% (p< 0.001, OR: 4.60, IC: 2.75-
4.69), enfermedad vascular periférica (p< 0.001, OR: 383.4, IC: 51.9-2833.9),
neuropatía periférica (p< 0.001, OR: 3.02, IC: 1.90-4.81), y antecedente familiar de
diabetes mellitus tipo 2 (p< 0.047, OR: 1.59, IC: 1.01-2.51).
dc.description.abstract | Introduction: Diabetic foot is one of the most serious pathologies and one of the
most frequent complications of type 2 Diabetes Mellitus (DM2), which is why it is
important to know the risk factors that can trigger it.
Objective: To determine the risk factors for diabetic foot in patients diagnosed with
type 2 Diabetes Mellitus treated at the Trujillo Regional Teaching Hospital.
Materials and methods: This study is observational, analytical, case-control, and
retrospective. The sample determined was 345 patients with DM2 treated at the
Trujillo Regional Teaching Hospital during the period 2018-2023, of which 115
were patients with diabetic foot and 230 were controls. The presence of various
factors for diabetic foot was studied, as it is a frequent complication in patients with
diabetes, and data was collected through the clinical histories of each patient.
Results: The present study had 345 patients, of which 115 had a diagnosis of
diabetic foot (cases) and 230 patients did not have such a diagnosis (controls).
The risk factors for diabetic foot were: male sex (p=0.018, OR: 1.78, CI: 1.10-2.88),
HbA1C >7.5% (p< 0.001, OR: 4.60, CI: 2.75-4.69), peripheral vascular disease
(p< 0.001, OR: 383.4, CI: 51.9-2833.9), peripheral neuropathy (p< 0.001, OR:
3.02, CI: 1.90-4.81), and family history of type 2 diabetes mellitus (p< 0.047, OR:
1.59, CI: 1.01-2.51).
Conclusions: It is concluded that the risk factors with a statistically significant
association are male sex, HbA1C >7.5%, peripheral vascular disease, peripheral
neuropathy, and family history of type 2 diabetes mellitus, for the development of
diabetic foot | es_PE |
