Determine whether prolonged interpregnancy period is a risk factor associated with preeclampsia. METHOD: An analytical, observational, case-control in the service of Gynecology and Obstetrics of Hospital Regional Docente de Trujillo, study was conducted during the period January 2012 - December 2013, which evaluated 165 postpartum women, where they compared 55 of them who had preeclampsia (cases) with 110 postpartum women who did not have the disease (controls), to which they were measured intergenesic prolonged period (greater than 48 months). Associated with preeclampsia using the test for association Odd Ratio (OR) potential factor was analyzed. RESULTS: There is increased risk of preeclampsia in women with long interpregnancy period (over 48 months), in which it was observed that 64% had this disease unlike controls who had 35%. (OR: 3.3, CI: 95%) CONCLUSIONS: Prolonged interpregnancy period (greater 48 months) is a risk factor associated with preeclampsia. Women who have this factor increased to have a pregnancy is complicated with preeclampsia risken_US
