| es_PE |
dc.description.abstract | The objective of this study was to demonstrate if there is an association between type 2 diabetes mellitus and acute pancreatitis in the Hospital Belén of Trujillo during the
2011-2015 period.
Material and Methods: Was carried out an observational analytical study of cases and controls. Were included groups of patients with pancreatitis (n = 88) and without pancreatitis (n = 352); attended at the Hospital Belén de Trujillo during the period 2011 - 2015. Were calculated the Odds ratio and Chi-square test.
Results: In the study population it was found that the average age of patients with acute pancreatitis was 47.18 years, of these, 32 (36.4%) were male. While in patients who did not present acute pancreatitis, the average age of the patients was 45.41 years, of which 168 (47.7%) were male; none of these characteristics had statistical significance. The univariate analysis showed that the history of alcoholism, gallstones and type 2 diabetes mellitus were associated with a significant increase in the risk of developing acute pancreatitis (p <0.05). We performed a multivariate analysis with logistic regression, in which we obtained that alcoholism had statistical significance (p = 0.0001) and at the same time an OR a = 5.70 (95% CI, 2.38 - 13.61); similarly, the history of gallstone had statistical significance (p =
0.0001) and was associated with an increased risk of acute pancreatitis (OR a = 4.45, 95% CI 2.65-7.48) and finally Diabetes Mellitus type 2 which also had statistical significance (p
= 0.005) with an OR a = 2.88 (95% CI, 1.37 - 6.09).
Conclusions: Diabetes mellitus type 2 is a factor associated with acute pancreatitis. | en_US |
