| es_PE |
dc.description.abstract | Check if age, sex and department of residence are factors associated with lethality from COVID-19 in Peru during the period March – August 2020. Materials and Methods: An analytical, observational, cross-sectional study was carried out. The study population was made up of 897,955 deceased and non-deceased patients with a COVID-19 diagnosis who were registered and reported in the portal of ““MINSA Open Data and Knowledge Management in Covid-19““ of the Government of Peru with a cut-off date of 30 August 2020. A descriptive analysis was carried out with simple and accumulated frequency tables. For the bivariate statistical analysis of the qualitative variables, the Pearson Chi-square test (X2 ) was performed with significance when the error was less than 5% (p<0.05), then a multivariate analysis was performed for the categorical variables using logistic regression. Likewise, the raw Odds ratio (OR) was calculated and adjusted with a 95% confidence interval (CI). Results: It was observed that the ages that predominated in the study are found in those over 60 years of age with 14,589 (69.2%) patients deceased by COVID-19, that is, the age group most affected corresponds to the elderly. The sex that occurred most frequently was male in 70.8% with 14,916 patients who died from COVID-19 and female in 29.2% with 6,159 patients who died from COVID-19 in Peru. Of the 21, 073 patients died from COVID-19; a total of 11,011 patients were reported in the department of Lima and Callao, representing 52.3%, while in the department of La Libertad there were a total 1,424 reported patients, representing 6.8%; Finally, the departments where the lowest number of deaths from COVID-19 were reported were Apurímac and Huancavelica with 47 (0.2%) and 43 (0.2%) respectively. Conclusions: Age over 60 years, male sex, and department of residence are factors associated with lethality from COVID-19 in Peru. | en_US |
