dc.description.abstract | The objective of the present study was to evaluate the effect of the protein
supplements PROSISA-S® and PROSISA-P® on the posture and population of
commercial hives during pollen harvesting with pollen traps. PROSISA®
supplements were developed using Animal-Space® software. For the field study,
18 commercial hives installed in polyfloral crops (charamusco, eucalyptus and corn)
were chosen. The field study was carried out in Casique-La Libertad-Peru, during
the month of December 2022. The colonies received three treatments (Control:
without protein supplement, PP: with PROSISA-P® protein supplement and PS:
with PROSISA-S® protein supplement). Pollen trapping was used in all hives to
simulate nutritional shortage. According to our results, PROSISA-S® of 18%PC
obtained higher total consumption (328.7g of PROSISA-S® and 79.2g of PROSISA-
P®), having a daily consumption of 13.7g and 3.3g, respectively (p<0.0001).
Similarly, PROSISA-S® 18%PC significantly increased (p=0.0151) the number of
brood combs (7.0 ± 0.35 frames), with respect to colonies fed PROSISA-P® 23%PC
(5.5 ± 0.35 combs) and the control treatment (5.5 ± 0.35 combs) in commercial hives
with pollen traps. Additionally, the treatments with protein supplements obtained a
greater number of frames populated with bees in commercial hives during pollen
harvest (p=0.0003). PROSISA-S® 18%PC achieved 12.83 ± 0.70 frames populated,
PROSISA-P® 23%PC achieved 9.10 ± 0.70 frames populated, and the control
treatment achieved 7.5 ± 0.70 frames populated. We conclude that the use of the
protein supplement PROSISA-S® increased consumption, laying and population of
commercial hives with pollen trap. | es_PE |
