| es_PE |
dc.description.abstract | Objetive: To determine if there is a difference in the amplitude of red cell distribution
in patients with benign prostatic hyperplasia and metabolic syndrome compared to
patients with benign prostatic hyperplasia without metabolic syndrome.
Methods: A analytical, observational, retrospective, case-control tudye. The study
population consisted of 208 patients with benign prostatic hyperplasia according to
established inclusion and exclusion criteria, distributed in two groups: with and without
metabolic syndrome, attended at the external clinic of the VLE Hospital.
Results: Metabolic syndrome was diagnosed in 50.5% (105) of patients. It was found
that ADE values were higher in the group of patients with BPH and metabolic
syndrome than in the control group (13.87 ± 0.62 vs 13.03 ± 0.51) (p <0.001). The
levels of fasting glucose, LDL-cholesterol, abdominal perimeter, triglycerides and total
cholesterol were higher in the metabolic syndrome group than in the non-metabolic
syndrome and were statistically significant (p <0.001). Patients with BPH and Smet
had higher levels of LDH-cholesterol than in the group of BPH and non-Smet (p
<0.001). The percentage of patients with previous diabetes and hypertension was
significantly higher in patients with Smet than in the control group. The association
between LDL and metabolic syndrome is not significant [OR 1.02 (0.47 - 2.22), 95%
confidence interval, P = 0.99].
Conclusions: The level of ADE is significantly higher in patients with BPH and Smet
than in patients with BPH without Smet. ADE is an independent predictor of Smet in
patients with BPH. | en_US |
