Asociación entre bajo peso según la edad gestacional y anemia a los 6 meses de vida postnatal en neonatos prematuros

Abstract

Objetivo. Determinar si existe asociación entre prematuros pequeños para la edad gestacional y anemia a los 6 meses de vida postnatal. Material y método. Se realizó un estudio de cohorte retrospectivo. La población estuvo constituida por 294 neonatos prematuros con una edad gestacional mayor de 32 semanas, atendidos en el Hospital Víctor Lazarte Echegaray. Se dividió en dos grupos, el primero con 147 neonatos pequeños para la edad gestacional y el segundo formado por 147 con peso adecuado para la edad gestacional. En ambos grupos se evaluó los niveles de hemoglobina al sexto mes de vida postnatal registrados en cada historia clínica. Resultados. En el presente estudio se evidencio la asociación entre el bajo peso para la edad gestacional y la anemia a los 6 meses de vida postnatal, mediante la prueba chi-cuadrado (x2=10.679) hallándose un valor de p=0.001 (p<0.005) y un Riesgo Relativo (RR) de 1.452 para un IC al 95% (1,155 – 1,825). Conclusión. El bajo peso para la edad gestacional es un factor de riesgo para anemia a los 6 meses de vida postnatal en neonatos prematuros.

Objective. The objective of this study was to determine if there is an association between low weight according to gestational age and anemia at 6 months of postnatal life in preterm infants. Material and method. A retrospective cohort study was carried out. The study population consisted of 294 preterm infants with a gestational age greater than 32 weeks, attended at the Víctor Lazarte Echegaray Hospital. It was divided into two groups, the first with 147 small neonates for gestational age and the second consisting of 147 with adequate weight for gestational age. In both groups, hemoglobin levels were evaluated at the sixth month of postnatal life recorded in each clinical history. Results. The association between low weight for gestational age and anemia at 6 months of postnatal life was evidenced by means of the chi-square test (x2 = 10.679) with a value of p = 0.001 (p <0.005) and a Relative Risk (RR) of 1452 for a 95% CI (1,155 - 1,825). Conclusion. Low weight for gestational age is a risk factor for anemia at 6 months of postnatal life in preterm infants.
