The objective of the study was to evaluate the Jackson’s ratio as a method to determinate the body condition in Geochelone denticulata, backing it up with hematological tests to determine the health state of the animals. 50 tortoises (23 males and 27 females) from the zoological farm Wildlife & Fish were evaluated, where the animals were kept under the same conditions of housing, food and sanitary control. Morphometric measurements were taken (carapace length and animal weight) and blood samples to determine the hematocrit, hemoglobin level and differential white blood cell count. The results of the morphometric measurements were processed using Jackson’s ratio formula and the indices obtained were classified respectively, at the same time, laboratory tests were performed and the values obtained were 6.5 g/dl (± D.S.2.16) for hemoglobin level and 21.24% (± D.S. 6.61) for hematocrit, which were evaluated jointly with the indices of Jackson’s. It was concluded that Jackson’s ratio is able to determine the body condition in Geochelone denticulata tortoises and the hemoglobin lecture is not directly related with the body condition.en_US
